Chubb established operations in Canada in 1954. The core business was the manufacture and installation of safes, vault doors, night depositories and other heavy physical security items.
Shortly afterward J.& J. Taylor Safe Works, a Toronto based company with deep Canadian roots, was acquired. The new company became Chubb- Mosler and Taylor Safes, by virtue of the acquisition of Taylor, and an association with the Mosler Safe Company of Hamilton Ohio.
Activities expanded to include:
Electronic alarms
Fire protection
Locksmithing
Sophisticated national service branch network
Other mergers and acquisitions followed as markets evolved. The assets of the Diebold Company of Canada were acquired in 1984. This sale included a manufacturing factory in Barrie.
Independent Security Products sold their business to Tann Canada about 1994. Tann Canada was already owned by Gunnebo when Chubb Safe was purchased. The Tann organization was merged into Chubb Lock & Safe and the new organization became known as Gunnebo Canada Inc.

2010
In April Gunnebo opens an office in Shanghai, China to be closer to its Chinese customers and actively participate in the development of security solutions for the Chinese market, primarily public transport and high street banks. The operation in China will focus on procurement, production and sales. The procurement function applies to the entire Group and therefore helps strengthen Gunnebo’s competitiveness globally.
In December Troax is sold to Accent Equity. The sale is made in light of Gunnebo’s new strategy, which is based on focusing the operation on the Bank Security & Cash Handling, Entrance Control, Secure Storage and Services segments.
