Gunnebo Achieves First Environmental Product Declarations for Physical Security Industry

Gunnebo has become the first company in the physical security industry to issue Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) on its products according to the International EPD System. An important achievement demonstrating Gunnebo’s commitment to fact-based sustainability reporting and reduced carbon emissions across its business and product range.
EPDs are an internationally recognised, third-party verified statement of a product’s environmental impact during its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to decommissioning and disposal.
Gunnebo’s EPDs are registered with the International EPD System, the world’s first and oldest EPD programme. Its EPDs are recognised by green building schemes such as BREEAM and LEED, by Building Information Management software, and by the EU’s Green Public Procurement scheme, among others.
Gunnebo Group is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

Gunnebo has issued the EPD’s in collaboration with AFRY, a European leader in sustainable engineering, design, and advisory services across the globe.

Gunnebo Safe Storage has attained third-party verified EPDs for three major products: the DuoForce range of Grade III safes; the SafeStore Auto Midi 5XL range of automated safe deposit lockers; and safes for automated teller machines (ATMs). The specific EPDs are published here . Gunnebo Group aims to achieve six EPDs by 2024.
EPDs within the International EPD System comply with the international standard ISO 14025 (environmental labels and declarations). To create an EPD, a detailed life cycle assessment (LCA) is conducted in accordance with specified rules for each product category. The results are then compiled into the EPD reporting format and verified by independent and approved third parties before publication. An EPD is valid for a fixed period, such as five years.
